Equipment downtime and unnecessary stoppages can often be a costly obstacle for companies operating in the mining and exploration industry. Geographe strives to provide leading edge engineering solutions to minimise the ill effect that part failures and change outs can have on commercial operations. As part of Geographe’s total service offering, we can conduct part examinations to accurately assess the root cause of part failure to:
- Eliminate defects in standard parts
- mprove the performance of a part
- Attain greater efficiencies in the changeover process.
Since 1991, customers from across Australia have been sending failed components to Geographe for analysis and to determine possible solutions. Types of parts that Geographe routinely examine include:
- Gearboxes & independent gearing component
- Earth moving equipment components
- Surface & underground mining equipment
Failure modes include inadequate welding, material corrosion, incorrect material specified, component overloading, premature wear and fatigue.
Failure Analysis Reports Upon completion of the failure analysis, Geographe prepares a full Failure Analysis Report for the client. This report details all metallurgical aspects specific to the particular failure. This may include visual examination, dimensional inspection, non-destructive or destructive testing, macro and micro examination, chemical analysis, surface hardness and micro hardness testing. Formal reports are issued with all relevant information and images detailed within, along with a detailed root cause analysis and suggestions for improvement.
In-House Laboratory Geographe has a well-equipped laboratory, staffed by personnel qualified to perform failure analysis and general material examinations. Equipment includes Polishing Machines, Microscopes, Hardness Testers and Spectrographic Analysis Equipment. Other testing that can be performed includes Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant Non-Destructive Inspection.
