Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a final step in the manufacturing process whereby material is ’eroded’ away through electrical spark discharges. At Geographe, a ‘Fanuc Robotic Wire Cutter’ is used to perform this process.
The Fanuc Robotic Wire Cutter uses a filament of wire that runs between two operating guides set close to the work piece in a fluidised chamber without ever making contact with the material, allowing intricate shapes to be cut, dimensions of extreme accuracy and fine finishes. The Fanuc Cutter is ideal for gear and gauge cutting and cutting very narrow splines and splits in work pieces that are impractical to saw. Instead it enables finer material removal rates than other machining processes can provide. The advantage of using a ‘Fanuc Robotic Wire Cutter’ is that it is capable of cutting many shapes and contours with extreme accuracy and reliability.
