EP / MOD
EP and MOD are two of Geographe’s most commonly used terminology when talking about our range of replacement parts. To those who have not encountered these abbreviations before, here is the brief story behind EP and MOD, what they mean and how these parts work in your favour:
EP = Enhanced Performance, a direct replacement to the OEM equivalent part with enhancements.
MOD = Modified, a Geographe developed part which will require a modified associated part or some form of modification to the machine in order to complete fit up.
In 1994, Geographe launched the EP and MOD labels to identify parts with superior performance. The main aim of this programme was to develop parts that will:
1. Extend operational life, resulting in less downtime.
2. Correct known deficiencies in imported parts.
3. Adapt imported parts to unique or exceptional operating conditions.
4. Reduce the overall costs of maintenance through improved serviceability or other innovations.
The nature of the enhancement range from simple design changes to more complex material improvements and unique design modifications. In most cases, Geographe’s range includes many enhanced performance parts at no extra cost. In other cases, the EP and MOD variant is offered as an extra cost option if required. Many of the part improvements result from close co-operation with customers and practical site experience. As a highly networked company, Geographe can act on information rapidly and achieve results very quickly. It is not uncommon for modifications to be designed, approved and manufactured within a few days. In addition, our quality system to ISO 9000:2000 series ensures that all design and engineering work adheres to stringent guidelines and is of the highest quality.

Case Study
Purpose Built Modification: Manual Override Backstop on Elevator Gearbox
A customer requested that Geographe refurbish a gearbox, which had been deemed unreliable and unsafe. As part of the gearbox refurbishment, we designed and fitted a new style manual override backstop that addressed one of their safety issues. After a successful trial period with the refurbished unit, all remaining units were also fitted with the new designed backstop.
